CAF Executive Committee approves 2025 competition calendar

The Confederation of African Football Executive Committee, led by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has confirmed the 2025 competition calendar, Afrosport reports.

The CAF Exco met on Monday, 16 December, in Marrakech, Morocco, just before the 2024 CAF Awards, and Motsepe, who chaired the meeting, started off by congratulating Morocco for the approval of their 2030 World Cup co-hosting duties with Portugal and Spain.

The Executive Committee confirmed that the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals will be held on Saturday, 27 January 2025, in Rabat, Morocco.

The U17 AFCON, which will be held in Morocco, will begin on Sunday, 30 March 2025, while the final match will be played Saturday, 19 April.

The U20 AFCON, however, will begin in Ivory Coast on Saturday, 26 April 2025, and will come to a conclusion with the final on Sunday, 18 May.

The CAF Exco also agreed that the curtains will be drawn on the ongoing 2024-25 CAF Confederation season with a two-legged final. The first leg will be played on Saturday, 17 May 2025, while the return fixture is slated for Sunday, 25 May.

The CAF Champions League will also be concluded with the final across two legs: the first is set for Saturday, 24 May 2025, with the second leg to be played on Sunday, 1 June.

The CAF Women’s Champions League will return for its fifth season next year with the opening match to be played on Saturday, 8 November 2025, while the final has been scheduled for Sunday, 23 November.

The AFCON 2025 in Morocco, meanwhile, retains its previously agreed date, with the tournament to kick off on Sunday, 21 December 2025, and end on Sunday, 18 January 2026.
