USM Alger won the CAF Confederation Cup for the very first time after defeating Young Africans on away goals in the second leg final at Stade du 5 Juillet on Saturday night.
The Union were victorious 2-1 in the first leg in Dar es Salaam but lost the return leg at home to a seventh-minute penalty from Djuma Shabani.
Young Africans tried hard to find a second goal that would have given them the lead and possibly their first-ever continental trophy. It was however USM that held firm to claim that honour.
Abdelhak Benchikha’s team also became the first Algerian team to lift the Confederation Cup after ES Setif, MO Bejaia and JS Kabylie tried prior without success.

The eight-time Algerian champions will have a crack at another continental trophy when they take on either Al Ahly or Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Super Cup slated for August.
