CAF Confederation Cup: Enyimba fight back to draw Zamalek in Uyo

Enyimba came back from two goals down to force CAF Confederation Cup holders Zamalek to a 2-2 draw in their second Group D game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

After losing their first lgroup game to another Egyptian side, Al Masry 2-0, the People’s Elephants needed an instant response, but went behind in the 33rd minute when Tunisian Seifeddine Jaziro found the back of the net.

Omar Faraj soon doubled the lead in the 40th minute, leaving Enyimba with an uphill task.

Ifeanyi Ihemekwele halved the deficit just before half-time, lobbing the ball over on-rushing Zamalek goalkeeper, Mohammed Awad.

The equaliser eventually came in the 57th minute, when Chinedu Ufere’s attempt was deflected into the box.

The Yemi Olanrewaju-led team are third on the log with just one point from two games and will face the same opponent on January 19 at the Cairo international stadium.


In other Confederation Cup games on Sunday, Bravos do Maquis of Angola defeated CS Sfaxien of Tunisia 3-2, CS Constantine from Algeria beat Simba SC of Tanzania 2-1, and ASC Jaraaf of Senegal and USM Alger of Algeria battled to a 0-0 draw.

Elsewhere, Orapa United of Botswana and ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast played 0-0, RS Berkane of Tunisia defeated South Africa’s Stellenbosch 3-1, and the game between Lunda Sul and Stade Malien finished 1-1.
