CAF Confederation Cup: ASEC Mimosas beat Rivers United to seal top spot

ASEC Mimosas finished top of Group B in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 win over Rivers United.

Both sides were tied on 10 points heading into the final round of group stage fixtures on Sunday, with the Pride of Rivers leading on the head-to-head record after their earlier 3-0 win in Port Harcourt.

Mofosse Karidoula’s second-minute strike was more than enough to get the job for the Ivorian giants.

Diables Noirs finished third in Group B after playing out a goalless draw with Motema Pembe of DR Congo.

In Group A, South Africa’s Marumo Gallants secured the top spot after coming from two goals down to defeat St. Eloi Lupopo 3-2, all three goals coming in the space of five minutes. USM Alger finished as runners-up with a 4-1 bashing of Libyan side Al Akhdar.

Pyramids FC secured second place in Group C after claiming a 2-1 win over fellow Egyptian side Future FC while table-toppers FAR Rabat drew 1-1 with ASKO Kara in the Togolese capital of Lome.

In Group D, Young Africans of Tanzania finished on top with a 1-0 over TP Mazembe in the Congolese city of Lubumbashi. In the second spot is US Monastir of Tunisia who defeated Mali’s Real Bamako 2-1.
