CAF condemn fans’ behaviour in Champions League games

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned the behaviour of fans in the Champions League second leg quarter-final fixtures involving Raja Casablanca and Al Ahly, and Esperance against JS Kabylie over the weekend.

The two games took place at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca and the Stade Hammadi Agrebi in Tunis. Both matches were disrupted for several minutes after supporters threw objects on the pitch, putting the safety of players at risk.

CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, in a statement said the incidents will be investigated and the necessary course of action taken by the relevant authorities.

“The scenes in Tunis and Casablanca were unacceptable and we cannot tolerate this in football,” read the statement.

“We condemn unruly actions by some supporters in the strongest terms. CAF will hand over the matter to our judicial structures for further investigation.

“The Quarter-Finals of the TotalEnergies Champions League have been an amazing spectacle and advertisement for African football. We have seen some thrilling encounters that have once again re-affirmed the attractiveness of the African interclub competitions.”

Al Ahly and Esperance will face each other in the semi-finals while Mamelodi Sundowns and defending champions Wydad Casablanca lock horns in the other semi.
