CAF Champions League: Remo Stars, Enugu Rangers off to winning starts

Remo Stars and Enugu Rangers began their quest to make it into the CAF Champions League group stage with victories in the opening round of the qualifiers on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The Sky Blues defeated FAR Rabat 2-1 in their first leg encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium, Nduku Junior and recently-capped Super Eagles full-back Ismailia Sodiq scoring in either half while former TP Mazembe forward Joel Beya scored the consolation goal for FAR.

Meanwhile, Rangers were also in winning mood by bagging a slim 1-0 away win at Comoros outfit Zilimadjou, Frank Uwumiro netting the only goal of the encounter.

Earlier on Saturday, newly-promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL ) side and President Federation Cup champions El-Kanemi Warriors played out a 1-1 draw with Benin’s Dadje in the opening qualification round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Bless Salassi put Dadje in front in the 29th minute and looked like they were going to snatch an away win in Ikenne but Gimba Ajiji levelled for El Kanemi in added time.

The return leg of all the fixtures take place next weekend, with Rangers enjoying home advantage to extend their lead while Remo Stars and El-Kanemi travel to Morocco and neighbouring Benin respectively.
