CAF Champions League: Al Ahly seal quarter-final spot

FIFA Club World Cup: Hany set Al Ahly target after loss to Real Madrid

Egyptian giants Al Ahly recorded the biggest result of the CAF Champions League final group stage fixtures as they defeated Al Hilal Omdurman 3-0 on Saturday.

The Red Devils were three points behind their Sudanese opponents in third place and needed to win by at least a two-goal margin to ensure they finished runners-up on head-to-head.

Mahmoud Kahraba and a Hussein El Shahat brace got the job done at the Al Salam Stadium to join Al Ahly with table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns who defeated bottom-placed Coton Sport of Cameroon 2-1.

In Group A, reigning champions Wydad Casablanca sealed top spot with a 3-0 win over JS Kabylie of Algeria who finished in second, three points behind Wydad. Angolan side Petro Atletico de Luanda finished third in the group with a 1-0 win over AS Vita of DR Congo.

In Group C, Hamza Khabba’s brace led Raja Casablanca to a 3-1 win over Simba SC, the Moroccans finishing on top ahead of the Tanzanians. In the battle for pride, Guinea’s Horoya got the better of Vipers to finish in third place.

In Group D, Esperance of Tunisia played out a goalless draw with Belouizdad which was enough for them to finish ahead of the Algerian side.

Zamalek ended in third place after Nasser Mansy’s hat-trick gave them a 4-3 victory over Sudan’s Al-Merrikh, which included a 94th minute winner.
