Rivers United produced one of the biggest results in round three of CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a 1-0 Group B win at Motema Pembe of DR Congo with 10 men.
The Port Harcourt outfit had defeated Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas previously and faced an early bath in Kinshasa when defender Gideon Duru received two yellow cards in the first half. Regardless of the setback, Rivers still found the back of the net through Ghanaian midfielder Paul Acquah in the 53rd minute and held on firmly for all three points.
In the other Group B game, ASEC Mimosas wasted no time in dispatching Diables Noirs of Congo in a comfortable 2-0 home win.
In Group A, Marumo Gallants of South Africa could not record another fairytale result as they lost 2-0 at USM Alger while St. Eloi Lupopo of DR Congo were 1-0 victors over Al Akhdar of Libya.
The North African-dominated Group C saw FAR Rabat of Morocco defeat Egyptian side Future FC 2-0 while another Egyptian outfit in Pyramids FC defeated ASKO Kara of Togo 1-0
