Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been selected in the final ten-man shortlist in the men’s category for the Player of the Year award at the upcoming CAF awards, the African football body announced on Friday.
CAF on Wednesday, November 1, initially released a 30-man list of players selected to win the biggest individual accolade on the continent with the aim of dethroning Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, who has won the award twice.
Osimhen, along with Mane, made the ten-man list, which includes: Riyad Mahrez (Algeria); Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Vincent Aboubacar (Cameroon); Mohamed Salah (Egypt); Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, Yassine Bounou, and Youssef En-Nesyri (Morocco).

CAF also revealed the final list of contenders in the other categories, with Interclub Player of the Year having 10 contenders, while Goalkeeper of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year have five each.
The sole winner of each of the aforementioned categories will be determined through votes from a voting panel that consists of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, head coaches and captains of member associations, and clubs involved in the group stages of the interclub competitions.
This year’s CAF Awards, which are slated for December 11, will take place at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.
