The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the new match ball for the 2024-25 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup a Nigerian name, Ola.
OLA is a name in the Southwestern part of Nigeria popular to the Yoruba ethnic group which means either wealth, respect or honour. The word also has an Arabic meaning of ‘rise’ and ‘success’.
CAF disclosed that the new match ball produced by PUMA was named OLA to symbolise the dynamic and energetic nature of African football. The design also features vibrant colours and art of the continent.
The new match ball will be used for the two-legged CAF Champions League final between Al Ahly and Esperance, and the return fixture of the CAF Confederation final between RS Berkane and Zamalek in Cairo on Saturday, May 19.
