Burundi players disappear from U19 Handball World Championship in Croatia

10 Burundi handball players have been declared wanted by Croatian authorities after they disappeared from their country’s camp at the IHF U19 Men’s Handball World Championship.

Croatian police disclosed that the handball players arrived in the European country with the intention of participating in the handball championships but they left their accommodation for an unknown location.

The U19 World Handball Championships started on the 2nd of August and ended on August 13 with players housed in university dormitories in Rijeka.

President of the Burundi Handball Federation, Dauphin Nikobamye, said the players’ relatives back at home are concerned about the situation and he called for help to find all the players.

“We are in complete shock, us as a federation and the parents of our national team players. We ask for information from everyone who can help us find our boys. I don’t know how we could go home without them,” Nikobamye said.

Burundi finished at the bottom of Group H after losing all three matches and conceding the most goals (161) in the group stage of the IHF U19 Men’s Handball World Championship.
