Nathan Tella found the back of the net twice as Bayer Leverkusen recorded a comfortable 2-0 away win at Darmstadt on Saturday afternoon to maintain their lead at the top of the table.
The Pharmaceutical-backed club could only play a goalless draw with Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend which allowed Bayern Munich to reduce the gap to two points.
Tella broke the deadlock against Darmstadt in the 33rd minute when he headed in Alejandro Grimaldo’s pinpoint cross.
The Nigeria international and former Southampton man doubled Leverkusen’s lead with a fierce finish in the 52nd minute after being assisted by Florian Wirtz for his fourth league goal of the season.
