Victor Boniface saved Bayer Leverkusen’s blushes thanks to his goal in their 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.
The Pharmaceutical-backed club have been in sensational form this season without testing defeat and were on an eight-game winning streak since a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich back in September.
Leverkusen however went behind on their turf when Julian Ryerson put Dortmund ahead in the fifth minute. Florian Wirtz also put the ball into the back of the net in added time of the first half but it was disallowed by VAR for offside.
It remained in the favour of the men in yellow and black until the 79th minute when Boniface finished off from close range with a simple tap in via Patrik Schick’s pass. It was the Nigerian striker’s first Bundesliga goal since he netted a solo in a 3-0 win over FC Cologne on October 8.

It made it back-to-back games Boniface scored having netted in the 2-0 win over Hacken in the Europa League in midweek. The 22-year-old now has eight Bundesliga goals this season and 13 in all competitions.
Leverkusen remain at the top of the Bundesliga standings and will next take on Paderborn in the DFB Cup on Wednesday.
