Bayern Munich recorded their first Bundesliga defeat under Vincent Kompany following a 2-1 loss away at Mainz on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

South Korea’s Lee Jae-sung broke the deadlock four minutes before the halftime break, having pounced on a loose ball to give Mainz a 1-0 lead at the MEWA Arena.

Lee doubled his and Mainz’s tally with his fifth league goal of the season as his defelcted effort from inside the box beat goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.

‎Bayern, however, pulled one back through German forward Leroy Sane in the 87th minute, but it only proved to be a consolation strike as Mainz stunned the Bundesliga leaders with a top class performance.

‎Meanwhile, first-half goals from Martin Terrier and Florian Wirtz were enough to help German champions Bayer Leverkusen ease past hosts Augsburg 2-0 at the WWK Arena.

The victory took Die Werkself into second place in the Bundesliga standings with 29 points after securing their fourth straight league win.

‎‎Elsewhere at the Millerntor-Stadion, Werder Bremen defeated strugglers St. Pauli 2-0 thanks to goals from Derrick Kohn and Marvin Ducksch.

A brace from Alassane Plea and one apiece from Robin Hack and Tim Kleindienst helped Borussia Monchengladbach to a 4-1 win over Holstein Kiel as they ended a two-game winless run, Union Berlin played out a 1-1 draw against 10-man VfL Bochum.
