Brentford have rejected a £25 million bid from Newcastle United for DR Congo international Yoane Wissa, Afrosport reports.

The 28-year-old has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, with Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest keen on acquiring his services this summer.

Brentford remain firm in their stance over the forward’s future and are unwilling to part ways with one of their key players for cheap. Wissa is reported to have returned to London to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy after departing their pre-season base in Portugal.

Newcastle are looking to strengthen their attacking options after missing out on key targets, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo signed by Manchester United, and Hugo Ekitike on the verge of a move to Liverpool.

The Magpies have now turned their attention to Wissa and are confident that, should an agreement be reached with Brentford, finalising personal terms with the player would not be an issue.

However, the Bees showing no interest in letting him go on the cheap, particularly after Mbeumo secured a move to Old Trafford in a club-record sale.

Born in France to Congolese parents, Wissa joined Brentford from Lorient in 2021 and has scored 49 goals in 149 appearances for the club. He had a stellar 2024-25 campaign, netting 19 goals in 35 league appearances.

He has three years left on his current deal, with the Bees holding an option to extend it by a further year. Wissa is open to a move away from Brentford this summer, but the West London club have made it clear they are unwilling to sell unless a club meets their full valuation.
