Brazil confirm Real Madrid’s Ancelotti as next head coach

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is expected to be named Brazil head coach ahead of next summer’s Copa America in the United States of America.

President of Brazil Football Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues confirmed that Fluminese manager Fernando Diniz would take charge of the team before Ancelotti’s arrival in summer 2024.

“His (Diniz) game plan is almost similar to that of the coach that will take over at Copa America, Ancelotti,” Rodrigues said.

“We don’t call him an interim coach of the national team. He will come and make the transition in Brazil for Ancelotti.”

Ancelotti still has one year left in his contract at Real Madrid, which is expected to end in the summer of 2024.

The legendary Italian tactician is one of the most decorated coaches of the modern era, having won four UEFA Champions League titles and each league title in Europe’s top-five leagues.

Meanwhile, Diniz will oversee Brazil’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers from September, including a home match against defending champion Argentina in November.

Brazil’s first match in World Cup qualifiers will be against Bolivia on home soil on September 7.
