Boniface shows off childhood coach in Bundesliga title party

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface flew his childhood coach, Johnson Blessing Perez from Nigeria to Germany for their Bundesliga title party on Saturday.

Coach Perez, as he is fondly called in Akure – a city in the southwestern part of Nigeria, mentored Boniface through his youth academy – Royal Gold Soccer Academy during his teenage years.

Boniface starred in Germany in his debut season at Bayer Leverkusen as his return of 14 goals and eight assists helped Xabi Alonso’s men lift their maiden Bundesliga title without losing a league match.

The Nigeria international ended the league season with a goal in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 win against Augsburg on Saturday and they are in still hunt for a treble with the UEFA Europa League final and the German Cup final still in sight.

Boniface, took to social media, to show off the Bundesliga title in his hands and his former coach who flew to Germany for the title party.

His post read: “Naija no dey carry last. If you like give up.”

Boniface capped his debut Bundesliga campaign by claiming the Rookie of the Season award after winning the Rookie of the Month awards earlier in the season for four straight months (August to November).
