Bayer Leverkusen managing director Simon Rofles on Thursday confirmed that Victor Boniface’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr is off, Afrosport reports.
Al-Nassr reportedly reached an agreement with Leverkusen for the signing of the Nigerian international, with the Saudi club ready to pay as much as €60 million as a transfer fee.
The 24-year-old was also offered an annual salary of €15 million, potentially making him the highest-paid Nigerian player.
The deal, however, fell through on Wednesday night after Al-Nassr chose to sign Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran instead of Boniface.
“There have been talks, but we are happy that he will be training with us today. I assume that he will stay,” Rofles said. “He feels comfortable here, his attitude towards the club is unchanged”.
Boniface has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 15 matches this season for Leverkusen, with Die Werkself currently second in the Bundesliga standings with 42 points, six behind leaders Bayern Munich.
