Beto reveals how Everton boss Moyes gives him confidence

Van Dijk refuses to dwell on Liverpool Merseyside Derby draw with Everton

Guinea-Bissau forward Beto says that manager David Moyes has given him confidence which has translated into a boost in form for both the player and the club, Afrosport reports.

Moyes returned to Goodison Park for his second spell after Sean Dyche was dismissed and has led them to three consecutive wins and a draw which sees them 10 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

The draw and the latest goal of Beto came in Wednesday’s Merseyside Derby with Liverpool which ended 2-2. It was the former Udinese player’s third goal in as many games, taking his tally to four goals which is one better than his entire tally from last season.

“I really like his [Moyes] approach,” Beto said in the official matchday programme towards the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

“He didn’t tell me, ‘You’re going to play’, or, ‘You’re not going to play’, instead the message was to keep working hard and be myself, be aggressive on the pitch and play my game.

“He gives me confidence. He doesn’t scream at me if things don’t go right but he will let you know if you’re doing something wrong. He and his staff have spent time with me on videos of things trying to help, which has been good for me. It shows they care about me and think I can get better.”

Meanwhile, Moyes provided an update on Senegal winger Illiman Ndiaye who left the pitch injured and in tears on Wednesday night. He said: We think he’s possibly kicked the ground and maybe jarred his knee or opened his knee up. We don’t know how serious it is yet but we’ll look tomorrow.”

Everton will next take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday before hosting Manchester United a week later.
