Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas have terminated the contract of head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following their elimination from the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, Afrosport reports.
The decision to relieve the Norwegian of his duties comes after a 2-1 aggregate loss to Swiss side Lausanne in the Conference League play-off round.
Besiktas started from the Europa League qualifiers but lost 6-2 on aggregate to Shakhtar Donetsk before dropping to Conference League where they have now failed to progress to the league phase.
A club statement read: “After getting knocked out of UEFA Conference League tonight, Besiktas Board of Directors held an emergency meeting and decided to part ways with Head Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“The Board also thanked Mr. Solskjaer for his services to Beşiktaş and wished him luck in his future career.”
Solskjaer was appointed as Besiktas boss in January after taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst. He signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further year, and led them to a fourth-place finish in the Super Lig.

His departure comes a day after Besiktas also confirmed the contract termination of former Arsenal player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who still had a year left to run on his existing deal.
Solskjaer oversaw the opening Super Lig game of the season against Eyupspor which ended in a 2-1 home win. They will next be in action away at Alanyaspor on Sunday.
