Bayern Munich’s Choupo-Moting ruled out of Man City clash

Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will be unavailable for Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Manchester City on Tuesday night due to a knee injury.

The 34-year-old was also absent in Bayern’s 1-0 win at Freiburg at the weekend which maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Choupo-Moting is Bayern’s top scorer this season with 17 goals and four assists in 28 competitive appearances.

“Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will not travel to Manchester,” Bayern said in a Twitter post. “The forward is unavailable due to a knee problem.”

Bayern also confirmed that France defender Lucas Hernandez, who had been out since suffering a knee injury at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has returned to training.

Tuesday’s fixture will see Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola face his former side whom he led to three Bundesliga titles and three Champion League semi-final appearances in his three years in the Bavarian capital.

He will also be looking to get revenge over Thomas Tuchel who got the better of the Catalan tactician when Chelsea saw off City 1-0 in the 2021 Champions League final in Porto.
