Barcelona get Atletico as Real Madrid draw Real Sociedad in Copa del Rey semi-finals

Barcelona claim El Clasico bragging rights at Barnabeu

Barcelona and Real Madrid are on opposite ends of the semi-finals draw in the Copa del Rey conducted on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The record winners will face Atletico Madrid in the last four, while Real, 20-time Copa del Rey winners, will face Real Sociedad in the other semi-final clash.

Barcelona and Real are at home in the first legs, which will take place between 25 and 27 February, while the return legs at Atletico and Sociedad are set to take place between 1 and 3 April.

This year’s pairing is a replica of the 2014 draw, the last time Barcelona, Real, and Atletico all made it to the semi-finals at the same time.

The Catalan giants thrashed Valencia 5-0 in the round of 16, Real edged Leganes 3-2 after extra time, while Atletico and Sociedad navigated Getafe and Osasuna, respectively, to reach the last four.

Barca and Atletico last played in the Copa del Rey semis in 2017, with the Catalans edging the Madrid-based team 3-2 on aggregate.

The draw, however, provides a possibility for a Clásico in the final, which will be the first since 2014.
