Genoa director Marco Ottolini has confirmed that Mario Balotelli will likely leave in the January transfer window three months after arriving at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Afrosport reports.
Balotelli was not part of the Genoa squad that faced Monza at home on Monday night in the Serie A, making it the second game in a row he failed to make the squad amid injury problems that have plagued the Italian forward for much of his Jekyll and Hyde career.
Before kick-off against Monza, Ottolini revealed that Balotelli had dropped down the pecking order on Patrick Vieira’s team and would try to find a solution to his future before the January transfer window shuts next Monday.
“Mario has dropped down the pecking order, he is eager to get more playing time,” he said per Football Italia.
“In the final days of the transfer window, we will try to find a solution that suits everyone.
“We are trying to find somewhere he can go to play. He is not getting minutes on the pitch at Genoa right now, so we consider the best solution to be finding somewhere he can get that.”
Balotelli joined Genoa as a free agent on October 28 under Alberto Gilardino. The Italian was however dismissed a few days later with Vieira taking his place.
The French tactician however had a clash with the former Manchester City forward when both were at OGC Nice.
Balotelli has only played six times for Gena in the Serie A, totalling 56 minutes of action.
