Awoniyi scoops two Nottingham Forest awards for August

Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has won the Nottingham Forest player of the month and goal of the month awards for August, the club announced on Monday.

The 26-year-old has started the season in blistering form, with three goals and an assist in four Premier League games so far for the Garibaldis.

Awoniyi scored three goals in three consecutive matches in the month of August to become just the third African player to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches and the first Forest player to achieve such a feat.

The Nigerian garnered a mammoth 83% of the votes from Forest fans to claim the player of the month award.

Likewise, Awoniyi’s early strike at Old Trafford against Manchester United was voted by the club’s fans as the goal of the month after it got about 38% of the fan votes.

The Forest No. 9, who had two goals in the nomination—his opener against United and his strike against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium—saw the two goals finish in first and second, respectively, with strike partner Chris Wood’s last-minute winner against Sheffield United finishing third.

Awoniyi ran the whole pitch after winning the ball off Marcus Rashford before firing in an extremely composed finish to beat Cameroon’s André Onana.

The former Union Berlin forward, who recently scored for Nigeria while on international duty, is also up for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.
