Sixth-seeded Tunisian star Ons Jabeur suffered a disappointing exit in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday.
Jabeur conceded a 6-0, 6-2 loss to 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva at the Rod Laver Arena.
The world number 6 was also knocked out of the competition at the same stage in 2023 and her best finish in Australia remains the quarter-final feat she achieved in 2020.
After Wednesday’s win, the Russian teenager described Jabeur as one of her inspirations on the tennis court.
She said: “Of course I’m happy I played with Ons,” said Andreeva. “It was one of my dreams to play against her, because I really like the way she plays. As I said before, I’m inspired by her. So it means a lot, today it meant a lot, this match that I won.”
Andreeva will hope to continue her inspiring run when she faces unseeded French star Diane Parry in the third round on January 19.
