Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has announced his departure from Olympique Marseille Marseille after just one season with the French club.
The Gabon 35-year-old joined the The Phocaeans from Chelsea last July and scored 30 goals across all competitions as Marseille finished eighth in Ligue 1 and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League where he was top scorer with 10 goals.
Aubameyang penned a heartfelt message to Marseille on Instagram to announce his departure.
“Had an emotional year and I want to thank the entire club, the staff, my teammates and our supporters,” he said.
“You made me stronger and these memories with you will be etched forever.
“As you know I have always followed my dad’s advice which has helped me become the player I am and therefore we made that decision to further my career. Time for me to start a new chapter.”
Aubameyang is now expected to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah on a reported two-year deal.
He will join Spanish defender Nacho Fernandez, Belgium goalkeeper Koen Casteels, Uruguay attacker Nahitan Nandez and Mexican forward Julian Quinones in signing for the Khobar-based side this summer.
