Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has been ruled out for several weeks after suffering a groin injury, Afrosport reports.
The 23-year-old Spaniard of Ghanaian heritage did not feature in Sunday’s 2-1 Lla Liga win away at Real Oviedo, lasting featuring in the 1-0 Copa del Rey semi-final first leg win over fierce Basque rivals Real Sociedad.
No timeline has been fixed for Williams’ return but he is expected to miss the Copa del Rey second leg against Sociedad on March 4.
There are also question marks on whether Williams will be available for Spain ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with La Roja facing Argentina in the Finalissima and Egypt in friendly next month.
“[Nico Williams]has begun treatment with an external specialist to treat his pubalgia, with specific work that, pending his progress, will cause him to be unavailable for upcoming matches,” read a club statement.
