Atalanta have dropped their UEFA Europa League hero Ademola Lookman for their Serie A opening game against Lecce amid uncertainty around his future.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Lookman to bolster their attacking options following the departure of Kylian Mbappe in June.
Italian outlet, Calciomercato reports that PSG are yet to make contact with Atalanta but they have presented an offer to Lookman’s agent which is believed to be worth €4.5 million per season, an upgrade on the €1.8 million per season he is earning at Atalanta.
Lookman emerged as an option for the Parisians as they struggled to convince his compatriot and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen for a return to France.
The former Charlton Athletic and Fulham forward starred for Atalanta last season, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists in 31 Serie A matches and he single-handedly ended the Italian club’s wait for silverware with his hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.
The 26-year-old won Atalanta’s Player of the Season award in the last two seasons and he has been dropped for his team’s trip to Lecce on Monday.
Gian Gasperini opted not to include Lookman in his 23-man squad and has listed three forwards including Mateo Retegui, Charles De Ketelaere and Dominic Vavassori to execute the game.
The Nigeria international moved to Bergamo in August 2022 and his current deal is expected to run out in June 2026.
