Aston Villa midfielder Tielemans out for up to 10 weeks with ankle injury

Aston Villa have suffered a major blow after Youri Tielemans was ruled out for up to 10 weeks with an ankle injury, Afrosport reports.

The Belgian midfielder sustained the problem in Villa’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday after a clash with Lewis Miley and was replaced in the 74th minute.

The absence of Tielemans adds to Villa’s growing list of injured midfielders, with John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara already sidelined for two months and the rest of the season, respectively.

“We know about Kamara, McGinn and Tielemans. Kamara is a long time, I think he’s not going to play this season. McGinn, more or less, is 6-8 weeks out, and Tielemans is 8-10 weeks out,” Villa boss Unai Emery said ahead of the Europa League clash with RB Salzburg.

“We need to see how we can manage central midfielders in the matches we are going to play.”

Aston Villa are currently third in the Premier League standings, four points behind league leaders Arsenal.

They are second in the league phase of the Europa League and have booked an automatic spot into the round of 16.
