Arsenal suffer Elneny’s injury blow

Done Deal: Arsenal sign Jorginho from Chelsea

Arsenal announced on Tuesday that Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny has been ruled out for an ‘extended period’ as he continues to recover from injury.

Elneny has been out of action since early January when he suffered an injury to his knee during a training session which required surgery.

The 30-year-old has begun his rehabilitation process following successful surgery, with the Gunners providing a timeline on his absence later on.

“Mo has had successful surgery in London and will be ruled out for an extended period of time. A more detailed timescale will be established once the early stages of rehabilitation have been completed,” a statement read on the club website.

“Everyone at the club will be offering Mo all the support he needs and working hard with him so he can return to action as soon as possible.”

Elneny previously had a thigh injury that ruled him out for 14 competitive games at the start of the season.

He has made only eight appearances in all competitions this season, scoring just once in the FA Cup third-round victory at Oxford United.
