Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated Arsenal are still on top of the Premier League even after his side defeated the Gunners 3-1 on Wednesday.
Goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland were more than enough to see the Citizens return to the summit of the log for the first time since November.
Arsenal have led the top-flight for much of this season but are now second by virtue of goal scoring. They have however played a game less than City and Guardiola believes this will help them added to 15 games still left to play for the campaign.
“Now we are top of the league but they [Arsenal] have one game in hand,” Guardiola said on the club website.
“It’s a long road. There are plenty more games to play.
“Coming here and winning against that team, second half we were much, much better. The second half was excellent. Still they have one game left so I consider they are top of the league. Still many games to play. Many games.
“It is difficult for everyone but what is important is we come here, few weeks ago maybe eight, nine points behind, losing here would be almost over.
“And now for the fact they dropped points, we come here for the chance to be close. We won the game and yes we are there.”
Arsenal could temporarily be back at the summit of log should they claim victory at Aston Villa in Saturday’s early kick off. City will however be able to reclaim it when they visit Nottingham Forest on the same day.
