Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the new signing, Mikel Merino, will be out of action for a few weeks, Afrosport reports.
The Spaniard, who completed a £31.6 million move to Arsenal from Real Sociedad on Tuesday, injured his shoulder during his first training session with the club on Thursday.
According to reports, the Euro 2024 winner collided with teammate Gabriel Magalhaes, which resulted in a small fracture that will keep him out of action for a about 6-8 weeks.
Merino, Arsenal’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, trained with his new club for the first time on Thursday.
In a pre-match conference, Arteta said, “Yes, very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision, and he has got a shoulder injury, unfortunately. It looks like he is going to be out for a few weeks”.
“He was really excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor, and Gabi landed on top of him, and it looks like he has a small fracture, probably.
“We have to see. He was in so much pain, we have to wait to do some more tests.”
The North London side were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium in Saturday’s early kickoff in the Premier League, ending the two sides perfect start to the 2024-25 season.
