Arsenal fullback Tomiyasu suffers further injury setback

Takehiro Tomiyasu has suffered a further setback in his efforts to return to action after he revealed he has undergone surgery on his right knee, Afrosport reports

The Japan international has played only once this season, featuring for just six minutes in a 3-1 win over Southampton back in October.

He is the third Arsenal player to go under the knife after Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus who will play no further part for this season.

“I’ve had a surgery on my knee few days ago and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again.” the 26-year-old said in an Instagram post.

“It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up.”

While the return date for Tomiyasu is not known, it is expected he will also miss the rest of the season, further limiting options available for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

He joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021 and has played 84 times in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing six assists.
