Arsenal have officially confirmed the resignation of Sporting Director Edu Gaspar after the Brazilian spent almost three years in the role with the London club, Afrosport reports.
Edu, who played for the Gunners from 2001-2005, rejoined the club as Technical Director in July 2019. He, however, rose through the ranks at the club, and was promoted to the role of Sporting Director three years later, overseeing the activities of the men’s, women’s and academy teams.

“This was an incredibly hard decision to make,” Edu said. “Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and the chance to be a part of something so special in the club’s history.
“It has been a special journey and I thank Stan [Kroenke], Josh [Kroenke], Tim [Lewis] and Lord Harris for the support they’ve given me. I’ve loved working with so many great colleagues across our men’s, women’s and academy teams, especially Mikel [Arteta], who has become a great friend.
“Now it is time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always remain in my heart. I wish the club and its supporters only good things and all the very best.”
During his playing days, Edu featured 127 times for Arsenal in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists.
The 46-year-old won two Premier League titles, including being a part of the 2003-2004 Invincibles team, as well as three FA Cups and one Community Shield.
The former Brazil international was crucial in helping the North London club during their rebuilding process, which has so far helped them become title contenders in recent years.
He is reportedly set for life under Evangelos Marinakis, Nottingham Forest owner, as a director for the Greek’s chain of clubs, which currently comprises of Olympiacos, Rio Ave and Forest.
