Arsenal are on the verge of completing a deal for Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres after reaching an agreement with Sporting, Afrosport reports.
Sporting have accepted Arsenal’s latest bid worth €73.5 million, with an initial €63.5 million to be paid upfront and a further €10 million in add-ons.
The exact structure of the bonuses is still under discussion, but a major breakthrough in negotiations came when Gyokeres’ agent agreed to waive a commission he was entitled to from the deal.
Barring any late complications, the 27-year-old is expected to undergo his medical later this week before signing a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium. He will become Arsenal’s fifth summer signing, joining Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke, while Cristhian Mosquera is also set to finalise his move from Valencia.
Gyokeres has prioritised a move to North London all summer, despite interest from several clubs, including Manchester United—who are currently managed by his former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.
The striker, who has three years remaining on his contract with the Portuguese champions, refused to report for pre-season training in a bid to force a move away from the club.
He had been locked in a standoff with Sporting president Frederico Varandas, who insisted he would only sanction the sale if the club’s €100 million valuation was met.
Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and has delivered 97 goals in just 102 appearances over two seasons in Lisbon.
He scored 54 goals in 52 matches across all competitions last season, playing a pivotal role in Sporting’s league and Portuguese Cup double.
