Antony: Man Utd winger arrives UK, to meet with police over assault allegations

Manchester United star Antony has returned to the United Kingdom from Brazil after over three weeks amidst several accusations of physical assault from his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.

The 23-year-old touched down in England on Tuesday and will reportedly meet with Greater Manchester Police for questioning over the allegations tabled against him.

Antony, who joined United in a blockbuster deal from Ajax last summer, has been away from the club on “a leave of absence” since September 10 following a mutual agreement between the player and the club hierarchy so as to provide him enough time to address the issues against him.

The United No. 21 has been in Brazil since early this month after joining up with the national team before his withdrawal by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), and he is said to be back in Manchester to cooperate with the GMP inquiries into the case, the same way he voluntarily cooperated with the police investigators in Brazil.

Antony, who has neither been arrested nor charged, was accused of physical aggression by Cavallin, who spoke to Brazilian outlet UOL earlier this month. Further claims of assault from Rayssa de Freitas and Spain-based banker Ingrid Lana also arose, but he has since denied them all.

It is understood that his meeting with the GMP will take place this week, and he is expected to hand over his phone to the police for a thorough inspection.
