Anthony Joshua discharged from hospital after fatal car crash

World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital following a tragic road accident that occurred earlier this week that resulted in the deaths of two of his friends, Afrosport reports.

His strength coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer Latif Ayodele lost their lives on Monday when their vehicle collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The former world heavyweight champion sustained minor injuries and had been monitored at Lagoon Hospital.

“Anthony Joshua was released from the hospital late this afternoon, though he is heavy-hearted and filled with emotions over the loss of his two close friends,” read a joint statement by Lagos and Ogun State governments on X.

“He was considered clinically fit to recover at home.”

After his discharge on Wednesday, Joshua and his mother went to a funeral home to pay their respects as the bodies of his friends were being prepared for repatriation.

The driver of the vehicle has also been released from the hospital and is currently being interrogated by the police.
