Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has vowed to continue with his coaching philosophy despite a slow start to life at Old Trafford, Afrosport reports.
The Portuguese has been implementing a 3-4-3 system with the Red Devils which brought him success at former club Sporting Lisbon.
It has however not translated to more wins since he took over from Erik ten Hag last month with Monday’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United the third in a row at home in the Premier League and fifth overall in the top flight since he took charge.
It has led to questions whether Amorim will ditch the 3-4-3 for another system but is not keen on doing that.
“I cannot change my idea in one day because we will lose much more now,” he said per the club website. “So I will try to do it the way I am trying to do it.
“I adapt for every game – the positioning, the way the players are trying to cope without training. So it’s really hard for them. But I maintain my idea, I want to play a certain way until the end.
“If I change everything now, we are going to lose everything.”
He added: “We have to continue to push. Remember we had like four training sessions all together. So that is important. I know what you guys are trying to reach [for, with your questions] but it is really clear.
“I was here because of my idea and I will continue to do my idea until the end.”
Man United are 14th in the Premier League standings, just seven points shy of the relegation zone. When quizzed if the club was in a battle to beat the drop, Amorim said: “Yeah, when you have this kind of moments, especially in the big clubs, it’s really hard to turn things around, especially when you have don’t have a lot of time to train the basics to cope with the difficult moments.
“We have to acknowledge our position, the way you see the league, everybody can win [against] everybody. So we have to win games and to focus on surviving.
“It’s also my fault in this moment because I think the team know it’s not improved. I think it’s a little bit lost in this moment, so it’s a little bit embarrassing to be Manchester United coach and to lose a lot of games. But we have to cope with that, difficult moments in the life of everybody. So it’s a hard moment.”
