Newly-appointed Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim stated that getting good at some basics of the football is what needs to change in the team, Afrosport reports.
The Portuguese tactician will take over the dugout for the first time when the Red Devils travel to Portman Road on Sunday to face newly-promoted Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
Amorim’s appointment comes with a lot of unknowns about how he will approach the team after a lack of clear identity under previous boss Erik ten Hag.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager however revealed that basics such retaining possession, which has been an issue for the Red Devils over the years, are some of things that will first need to change with the team going forward.
“Simple things I think. If you want to speak about the team and the way we play, we lose the ball too often. We have to be better at running back and we have to be very good in the details, Amorim said in his first United press conference.
“It’s the small things, we have to improve the small things. Understanding the small things, I think is what I’m good it.”
Reflecting on how United will play under Amorim, the 39-year-old said: “As a coach, you have to choose one way or another. I always, 100%, [do it] our way. I prefer to risk but push in the first moment.
“Since the first moment, I believe so much in our way of playing, there’s no second way. We will adapt some players because we don’t have the right profiles as this squad was set up for a different system. When you see the team on Sunday, it will be similar players, but in the game it will be different.”

Amorim will be hoping to push Man United higher up the table as they currently sit in 12th place on the log, three points shy of the top 10 and four points away from the top four.
