Amorim insists his position on Rashford has not changed

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has insisted he will not change his mind about Marcus Rashford who has been frozen out of the first team, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old trained with his United teammates at Carrington on Wednesday morning, but did not travel with them to Bucharest for the final Europa League league phase game against FCSB on Thursday night.

Amorim clarified his earlier comments where he claimed he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital ahead of Rashford, making it clear that is no room for any player that does not give his maximum.

“Again, guys, the situation is the same for every player. And the last time I talked about that in the last game [against Fulham], my sentence was that I will not put any player that don’t [doesn’t] give the maximum,” he said.

“I didn’t say I will not put Marcus Rashford. So it’s the same situation. When they feel that it is the right moment, I will put any player to play and I will say it again, we are a better team with Marcus Rashford and that is clear. He is a big talent, but until the right moment, I will not change my mind. That’s all. And itd and always the same answer.”

He added: “Our team, you can look at our team and imagine the profile of the players, you know? Now imagine a talent like Rashford. Our team should be so much better with Rashford. But this Rashford, he has to change. If he changes, we are more than welcome to put a talent like Rashford (in the team).

“And we need it. But in this moment, I think it is really clear that we have to set some standards. That’s all. We are waiting for Marcus, if he wants, really, really bad. That’s the only thing. You try to make like something personal. It is not personal. I have nothing against Marcus. I just have to make the same rules for everybody. And that for me, it’s so simple. It’s always the same answer.”

Man United are currently fourth in the Europa League league phase standings and must beat FCSB to ensure they finish in the top eight for an automatic spot into the round of 16.
