Sloane Stephens has announced that Francisco Roig who was previously associated with Rafael Nadal has joined her coaching team.
The 54-year old had been with Nadal throughout his illustrious career that saw him lift his first Grand Slam at the French Open in 2005 up to his most recent at the same event in 2022 – which was the 22nd of his career, an extended record in men’s tennis.
The fruitful partnership, however, ended on Tuesday after Nadal announced he had recruited Gustavo Marcaccio – a coaching staff from his tennis academy in his hometown of Mallorca.
Roig will now work with Stephens who is excited about the partnership.
“Happy to have Francis Roig join my team as my new coach! Here’s to a successful journey together, let’s get to work,” Stephens said in a Twitter post.
