Amadou Onana is looking forward to competing in the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming 2024-25 season after completing his transfer to Aston Villa from Everton.
The Belgium midfielder of Senegalese and Cameroonian heritage, penned on a five-year deal at Villa Park worth £50 million.
The 22-year-old joined the Toffees from Lille for £33 million in 2022 and made 72 appearances, scoring four goals. He was linked with a move to Arsenal last year while a host of top clubs were reportedly keen this summer.
Villa however won the race to append Onana’s signature after the club sold Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35 million in June, and now wants to see his craft improve under manager Unai Emery.
“It feels amazing,” he told the club website.
“I’m glad to be here, finally, and I can’t wait to get started.
“It was a bit of everything. There’s a healthy atmosphere here to grow as a player and as a man.
“The team played very attractive football last season with loads of goals and will now be playing in the Champions League.
“I’ll be playing in the Champions League again and that’s very exciting. We also have a manager that’s one of the best in the business and I think he can take my game to the next level.”
