Algeria winger Rachid Ghezzal has described his suspension by Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas as a shock and the decision as political.
Ghezzal who came on as an 80th-minute substitute in the Black Eagles’ 3-1 loss to Fenerbahce on Saturday, was among the four African players suspended on Monday.
Besiktas claimed Ghezzal, Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar, Ivory Coast’s Eric Bailly and Cameroon’s Jean Onana have not been at their best for the club, which resulted in the indefinite suspension.
The club’s decision has not gone down well with the Algeria international who is ready to clear his name from such a reputation and he reiterated his commitment to Besiktas if given the chance.
“I take note of the club’s statement, which I was surprised to discover on social media this morning,” Ghezzal wrote on Instagram.
“It shocks and deeply hurts me. Know that I have always been proud to wear, to win, and to fight for the Besiktas uniform and that I will continue to do so as long as I am given the opportunity until the end of my contract.
“However, I cannot accept that my name is associated with potential behavioural problems or lack of commitment to the team. So I must tell you that this exclusion has nothing to do with it: it is simply arbitrary and political.
“To all the fans, know that I see all your messages of support. They touch me and I thank you for them. I love you.”
