Algeria set up friendly matches against Cape Verde & Egypt

The Algeria Football Federation has announced international friendly matches against Cape Verde and Egypt in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast next year.

The Desert Foxes will begin the October international break with a fixture against Cape Verde on October 12 at the Chahid Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine.

Djamel Belmadi’s men will then travel to the United Arab Emirates to face North African rivals, Egypt on October 16 in the city of bu Dhabi.

A statement from the Algerian FA read: “As part of the FIFA window for the month of October 2023,. from the 9th to the 17th, and in anticipation of its next deadlines which are the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup which will begin in November and the TotalEnergies AFCON – Ivory Coast 2023, the national selection will face Cape Verde and Egypt in friendly matches respectively.”

The match against Egypt was originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 17 but it was moved forward to accommodate the schedule of Egyptian giants Al Ahly who play Simba SC of Tanzania on October 20 in the African Football League and to ensure their players return in time for the crucial club fixture.
