Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has surpassed the assist record set by Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old midfielder took his assist tally to 30, one more than Kanu, who notched up 29 during his playing time, to become the Nigerian with the most assists in Premier League history.
Iwobi achieved this feat in Fulham’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Craven Cottage this past weekend, after teeing up former Arsenal teammate Emile Smith-Rowe for their side’s second goal.
After a brilliant play by Smith-Rowe, the Englishman played the ball to Iwobi, who immediately returned it with a well-weighted pass to the edge of the penalty area before the former poke it past Nick Pope in the 22nd minute.
The Nigeria international, who has previously donned the colours of Arsenal and Everton, has scored once and provided three assists in five league matches this campaign.
