Akpom extends lead as Championship top scorer in Middlesbrough loss

Chuba Akpom continued his fine goalscoring run in the English Championship with his 24th goal of the season in Middlesbrough’s 4-2 loss to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Akpom halved the deficit for Michael Carrick’s team in the 74th minute after goals from Matthew Pearson, Josh Ruffles and Josh Koroma gave the hosts a 4-1 lead at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Nigerian descent was on parade from start to finish for Middlesbrough who conceded their 12th league defeat of the season.

Akpom’s form in front of goal has boosted Middlesbrough’s push for promotion to the Premier League with the former Arsenal youngster scoring 11 goals in his last 10 games.

Despite the disappointing away result, Middlesbrough remain in third position in the Championship table with 67 points after 39 matches and they are six points behind the automatic promotion spot.

Carrick’s men will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they host league leaders Burnley for their next game on April 7.
