Ahmed Musa quits Turkish club Sivasspor

AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Super Eagles skipper Musa not taking Sierra Leone for granted

Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has parted ways with his Turkish Super Lig club, Sivasspor with immediate effect.

Both parties agreed to terminate early the contract that was expected to run out at the end of the current campaign.

The 31-year-old only played two Super Lig games this season and he did not return to Turkey after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

His only goal for Sivasspor this season was the second goal in the Turkish Cup fourth round against Arnavutkoy Bld and the game ended in a 2-1 win.

Musa is yet to play a game this year despite leading the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the recently-concluded AFCON and his last competitive outing for Sivasspor was in September 2023 when he came off the bench in their 1-1 draw against Rizespor.

He joined Sivasspor who are currently 14th in the league table on a free transfer in September 2022 after terminating his deal at Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk.

Musa’s next destination is yet to be known but he has enjoyed an illustrious club career from his early day at Kano Pillars in Nigeria to VVV Venlo and CSKA Moscow in Russia, followed by a move to Leicester City in the Premier League and to Al Nassr at Saudi Arabia before switching to Turkey.

The Jos-born star won the Russian Premier League thrice with CSKA Msoscow and he claimed the league’s top scorer prize in the 2012-12 season. He also lifted the Saudi Arabian double with Al Nassr in 2019 – the Saudi Pro League and Saudi Super Cup.
