African legends to attend CAF Champions League & Confederation Cup draws

Africa Cup of Nations

A number of African football legends and previous winners of the illustrious continental club competitions have been confirmed to attend the much-anticipated draws for the Total Energies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup on Monday.

The draws for the two competitions will commence today, with the Total Energies Confederation Cup coming up at 12 p.m. West African Time, followed by the Total Energies CAF Champions League at 1 p.m. West African Time later today.

Today’s Total Energies CAF Champions League draw marks the 25th anniversary of the reputable continental club competition that began in 1997.

Earmarking the anniversary, CAF has invited some of Africa’s finest legends, including Angola’s Flavio Amado, Tunisians Medji Traoui and Ayman Mathlouthi, Zambia’s Christopher Katongo, and Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak.

Flavio Amado, 42, won the CAF Champions League on three separate occasions with Egyptian giants Al Ahly (2005, 2006, and 2008) and was voted as the tournament’s best player in 2001 while playing for Angolan side Petro Atletico.

Tunisian Medji Traoui, the current head coach of Egyptian side Al Masry, won the CAF Champions League as a player (2007) and coach (2018, 2019) with the same club, Esperance de Tunis.

Ayman Mathlouthi, another former Tunisian international, would relive the memories of times past, when he won the CAF Champions League in 2007 and the CAF Confederation Cup in 2006 and 2015 with Etoile du Sahel.

Ghizlane Chebbak, who plays as a forward for current African Women’s Champions League champions ASFAR of Morocco, will also be present for the draw. She was part of the ASFAR team that won bronze in the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021 and a gold medal in 2022.

Chebbak was also part of the Moroccan team that finished as runners-up at the Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July.

Another name present on the list is former Zambian striker Christopher Katongo, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Chipolopolo in 2012. He played for the Green Buffaloes at club level, participating in CAF club competitions.

You can follow the two draws live on CAF website starting at 12 p.m. West African Time.
