The Africa Youth Scrabble Championship trophy continues its tour across Africa as it arrived in Uganda from host country Nigeria on Thursday.
The trophy tour is one of the major activities planned by the Pan Africa Scrabble Association (PANASA) to kick start the maiden tournament taking place in Lagos from August 24 to 28 and is meant to bring together school children and generate awareness across the African continent on the importance Scrabble plays in their development.
The trophy tour began in Ghana, where a request was made to include Scrabble as one of the sports at the 13th African Games in Accra next year, before moving to Kenya then Nigeria, and now Uganda.
President of Scrabble Uganda, Nelson Kyagera revealed that the trophy will tour three schools in the City of Gulu on Friday with PANASA, led by Adekoyejo Adegbesan, present in the East African country for the duration of the tour.
Around 150 participants from 23 countries are expected to feature at the maiden Africa Youth Scrabble Championship taking place at Chrisland School, Lagos.
The competition will be held simultaneously with the elite championship, President’s Cup.
