Three-time African champions Nigeria started their preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Guinea-Bissau with an open training session on Monday.
A total of 19 players have reported to the team’s camp in John Woods Hotel, Abuja and Monday’s evening session was supervised by head coach Jose Peseiro.
Peseiro described the first training session since their 4-0 defeat to Portugal in November, as fantastic and another step in their quest to qualify for the continental tournament that will take place in the Ivory Coast from January 2024.
The Portuguese tactician said he is happy with his players’ motivation and the overall happy mood in practice.
Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi was excused from the training following a request from his Premier League club for him to be rested in order to be in top condition.
Nigeria are scheduled to play Guinea-Bissau at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Friday before travelling to Bissau for the return leg, three days later.
